Ceramic Dispersant

Ceramic Dispersant/Deflocculating Agent

Dispersants are used in the formulations to reduce the amount of water during the preparation of grinding slurries in industrial production of ceramic tiles, effusive ceramic and tableware porcelain. The properties of SYNSTOL series polycarboxylates, when properly designed (polymer compositions and molecular weight), will allow them to adsorb efficiently onto a solid substrate (finely dispersed particles). The particles having SYNSTOL series adsorbed on them will be maintained in a stable dispersion state through a complex and system-dependent mechanism involving electrostatic repulsion, steric hindrance or a combination of the two (electrosterical effect).

SYNSTOL polymers find application as deflocculants during wet grinding of many minerals. Addition of SYNSTOL polymers imparts a negative charge on the surface of the particles. Repulsive forces between similarly charged particles leads to reduction in viscosity with consequent benefits of higher solids loading, reduced grinding time and therefore reduced operating costs.
