Antifoams for Amino Acid

Antifoaming Agent for Producing L-amino Acids

FOAMSPUN* K series antifoaming agents for use in fermentation processes, a fermentation medium which incorporates the antifoaming agent producing L-amino acids. Aerobic fermentations are an important application field for the use of antifoam agents. They can be distinguished in processes for growth of microorganisms (e.g. baker's yeast production), and the production of various "bio"products (such as antibiotics, enzymes, amino acids and citric acid) by using particular types of bacteria. In aerobic processes, the oxygen supply to the microorganisms is carried out by air blown into the fermenter.

FOAMSPUN* K series antifoaming agents for fermentation baths have not proven very satisfactory, however, due to an unacceptable antifoaming effect, an adverse affect on fermentative production (inhibition of growth of microorganisms, inhibition of formation of products, etc.), a long incubation time before developing an antifoaming effect, or the inability to retain an antifoaming effect over long periods of time.
